B.Tech Biotechnology:

Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary branch of engineering and sciences developed with an aim to vision to prepare graduates with expertise in engineering with a background of biological sciences. The B.Tech Biotechnology course was initiated in 2005 and the course was designed to meet the demands of both academia and industries in consultation with eminent experts from both the fields. The major goal of this course was to impart knowledge involving a multidisciplinary approach where the students can fulfill the expectations of a large scale of industry related operations as well high end fundamental research. It is a four year (8 semester) programme in which the curriculum includes courses from biotechnology and engineering together with relevant laboratory programs, and a research project. The course covers a wide array of topics right from basic biological sciences like Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Structural Biology to application oriented subjects like Bioprocess Engineering, Fermentation Technology, Plant and Animal Biotechnology, Basic Computational Biology and other regular subjects. The multidisciplinary essence of the course is maintained by offering students open electives subjects from departments other than this department. Owing to flexible structure of the course a student can choose subjects from an array of departmental and interdepartmental electives. This prepares the student for fields with future challenges and intended area of specialization. The departmental faculty strength includes a strong interdisciplinary research and teaching base in biological sciences and biochemical engineering which prepares the student for industry as well as research programs.

M.Sc. Biotechnology:

This is a four semester program which is prepared with an aim to impart in-depth knowledge of basic biological sciences with a thrust in engineering aspects based on a multidisciplinary approach. The curriculum covers wide spectrum of subjects like Enzymology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Analytical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Immunology, Biophysics and Bioinformatics, together with relevant laboratory programs, and a research project leading to a dissertation.  In addition there are provisions of several electives within and outside departments to allow students get an exhaustive training in both biological and technical aspects of this course.

M.Tech Bioprocess Engineering:

This is a two year postgraduate program in the department. Bioprocess engineering covers all aspects of bioengineering. The course structure covers applied biology topics like Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology and at the same time high end bioengineering topics like bioprocess control, bio separation techniques etc. The course involves one complete year of M.Tech dissertation involving research linked mainly to biochemical engineering. The course is structured in such a way that it can preparer the students to be suitable for biotechnological/Bioengineering related industries. At the same time the students are encouraged to undertake high end research in the area of biotechnology and biochemical engineering.

The department also offers Ph.D. in varied areas of Biotechnology involving both basic and application orientated research. Based on varied area of expertise of the faculties the selected students can opt for both biological as well engineering aspects of Biotechnology.
